Ten Days of Prayer to the Holy Cross, Day 1

Family Tradition Lives On

My grandfather was a devoted Catholic, a regular church-goer, a kind man but sometimes  hot-tempered one. He used to plan a yearly Novena for his devotion to the Holy Cross at the same time a feast and gathering for the family. When he passed away the annual activity had to stop too for no one in the family could provide time and take responsibility of the expenses to continue the Novena and get-together. I wanted to do it but I was financially incapable, too young, unemployed and I need to finish my degree that time. The only thing I was able was to promise that when the right time comes  I will continue what he’d started.

On his 16 death anniversary,  I think that the long-awaited time has come and it’s only right to fulfill my promise. I know it took me so long to realize it but I know too that he’d understand me, and God knows how I am dreaming and planning of implementing the event even I’m away from home. I asked my mom over the phone if she could help me organize the daily Novena at home as well as the party when the Ten Days of Prayer conclude. Invite all the relatives who used to pray with us and visit us for the devotion and carry on the family tradition. So blessed that my mom is more than willing to do the task. She even cried when I offered to finance the activity for she’s been thinking about it too however she is financially incapable of doing it. She’s just glad that one of her children cared about the tradition that my grandfather left to us.

I remember when I was a kid, my grandparents and their friends pray in ten days. My relatives from distant provinces would come and celebrate too. On the last day, a big feast will be held where neighbors, relatives, and friends join together in a holy mass in our small and old chapel, then food and drinks were offered after the prayer. They can sing or dance with live band played by some talented friends of my grandpa. Yes, I  still have vivid recollections of my grandparents dancing to Tango and Cha-cha among their friends who brought their bass, ukulele and guitars. It was a joy watching them with genuine laughter and happy faces and I treasure those memories. I want my daughter to experience the same joy of having a happy and prayerful family so I want to bring it back and see my relatives and neighbors pray, sing, dance and eat together again.

Today is the first day of the Nine Days of Prayer to the Holy Cross. The prayer culminates on the 20th of July and I am so looking forward to see my folks gather once again after a very long time.

I am very thankful that God bless me so much determination, sound mind and body so that I can carry on what my late grandfather had started.

My prayer:

Lord, when I look for a companion and support in my plans, you are always there, guiding my every decision. You help me make some things to happen – this plan to happen. Thank you for everything and being everything to me. Amen.

VDay Greetings: To My Sister

I must have done something good that God rewarded me a sister who:
cares without condition;
understands without questions;
listens without doubt of my every word;
I must have forgotten to utter my thanks and praises to God
that He reminded me of being nice and kind, hence,
sent my sister as an example.

I wish you joy on Valentine’s Day, my sister, my angel!  😀

Truth Bites

It is sad to find out that the people you value most are the ones who never care for you at all. I asked myself: Will the people I considered friends since our teen years care about me the same way I think about them? When I got the hint that I wasn’t even qualified to be in their circle, I just said my thanks as first step of moving on to a better life with nicer people. It hurts but it’s for the better. Burning bridges is not really easy but sometimes it is necessary.

Suan Rot Fai Park, Bangkok

DSC_1730I had the chance to visit my favorite park again last December holidays, the Suan Rot Fai Park. I wanted to visit downtown Bangkok but the threats of rallies and protests of red shirts party prevent me from pursuing my plans so I decided to take a second stroll at Suan Rot Fai Park or the Wachira Benthat Park. I’ve been there once but I vowed to see it again because I was literally amazed of this massive park. The last time I was there was unexpected and I wasn’t able to tour around well.

This time I was with two friends and it looked amazing than before. It has children’s playground, butterfly garden, fitness center, lake and ponds, fields of roses, cosmos, lotuses and other flowers. This park is great for picnic and relaxation. Anyone can bring the family at this leisure park and bring food that can be from your own kitchen or from the vendors at the entrance area.

The only way to get a full tour around the serene recreational area is to rent a bike at the entrance. You can use the bike the whole time you spend inside and return it before going home.

The first stop we took inside the park was the Bangkok Butterfly Garden. There’s no entrance fee so anyone can get in, take photos and check at the butterflies. We saw a lot of butterflies though it looked they’re of one kind only. I expect to see a variety. 🙂 However, we’re glad to see how they preserve and maintain the place.

We spent almost the whole day biking around the park. But there’s an area where bikes are not allowed so we had to walk. We didn’t feel the 37°c heat of the sun until we finished the walk 2 hours later.

The reason why I really wanted to go back is to see the flower beds and lotuses closely. Unfortunately, the lotuses are not in bloom this time. But still I enjoyed our tour and got to see the beautiful sights of Suan Rot Fai Park again! 🙂

Caught in Quotes: Character

“A fair reputation is a plant, delicate in its nature, and by no means rapid in its growth. It will not shoot up in a night like the gourd of the prophet; but, like that gourd, it may perish in a night.”

Caught in Quotes #14: For Peace of Mind

“Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.”
