My grandmother used to tell us stories when we were small. One of them is about Mt Hibok-hibok and that this volcano has caused plenty of damage when it erupted in 1951. Some of her friends and relatives died during earthquake and avalanche of volcanic lava and stones. Some have survived but they got burns on face, shoulders or hands. It also destroyed hundreds of homes due to intense ash rains. I even saw one of my grandmother’s friends who has scars from the said eruption.
This is located in Mambajao, Camgiuin Philippinesd and to this date, some parts affected by this volcanic explosion are used as tourist spots in the province.
Mt Hibok-hibok is still active and permanently monitored by volcanologists.
